Eleonore Elstone

Eleonore Elstone is an accomplished Canadian dressage rider, coach, and equestrian mentor whose lifelong dedication to the sport has spanned competitive success, athlete development, and high-performance coaching.

Born in Germany, Eleonore began riding at the age of seven after receiving a pony for Christmas. Her early years were immersed in the equestrian world through her family, particularly her mother’s riding school for children and youth. During this time, she trained in vaulting and competed in the three Olympic disciplines—jumping, dressage, and eventing—developing a strong foundation in horsemanship. By the age of twelve, she was already competing regularly, though dressage quickly became her primary passion.

After immigrating to Canada in 1974, Eleonore continued her dressage career while developing horses and advancing through the competitive ranks. In 1988, Eleonore committed fully to a professional career in training, riding, and coaching. She achieved NCCP Level II and III coaching certification in 1991 and later became a coaching evaluator and examiner. Several of her horses earned placements on the Canadian Dressage National Team Development Squad, and she was also named to the Canadian Dressage National Team Program B Squad with three of her own horses—an accomplishment reflecting both her riding ability and her expertise in horse development.

Driven by passion

Eleonore has long been passionate about developing young athletes. Many of her students have gone on to compete at the North American Youth Rider Championships (NAYRC), and she served as Team Coach for NAYRC for three years as well as Team Coach for the Canadian Youth and Young Rider Championships in 2006. She also contributed to the advancement of coaching in Canada through more than a decade of volunteer service on the Equine Canada Coaching Committee.

As an EC-licensed High Performance 1 (HP1) coach, she has developed numerous riders and horses through the competitive levels, from grassroots youth riders to Young Rider and Grand Prix competitors.

Despite suffering a serious riding accident in 1979, Eleonore continued competing at the highest levels of the sport. In 2006 she was classified as a Grade V Para-Dressage rider and went on to represent Canada internationally. She competed on the Canadian Para-Equestrian Team at the World Dressage Championships in 2007 and 2010, as well as at the Paralympic Games in 2008 and 2012.

Today, Eleonore continues to train and coach from Pacific Country Stables in South Langley, British Columbia, where she works with riders and horses across all levels of the sport. Her current partner, Szecrecy, a Friesian Sport Horse mare by Secret owned by Rachel Blaney, began training with her in late 2023 and is currently ranked first on the Para Dressage Development Squad as they prepare to qualify for the 2026 World Equestrian Games in Aachen, Germany.

Eleonore lives in Langley, British Columbia with her husband Robert and their daughter Ashleigh, and continues to contribute to the Canadian equestrian community through coaching, mentorship, and high-performance sport development.
